Welcome to HARRTC!
Welcome! To address the shortage of rehabilitation clinicians trained to conduct scientific research, the HARRTC offers a multifaceted/ comprehensive training program that incorporates didactic, classroom, and hands-on laboratory training by experienced scientists and clinicians from several disciplines at the University of Missouri-Columbia. By the conclusion of this two year training program, it is our goal for all participants to be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to “advance the capabilities of science” and ultimately become an independent researcher.
Be sure to explore our participating faculty’s description of their respective labs. We offer a “dual mentoring tier”. The first tier is the closest level of supervision and guidance. We have carefully selected only those faculty scientists at the University with experience in mentoring and supervising graduate and postdoctoral trainees. By the conclusion of the second training year, fellows will complete a capstone project (an extramural grant submission) that will primarily reflect the skills and knowledge obtained by the fellow under the supervision of their primary mentor. We also provide a second layer of supervision by interactive didactics with other trainees and with resident physicians in the physical medicine and rehabilitation program. The goal for the second tier of mentoring is to guide participants in career planning. Additional supervision and guidance will be achieved by oversight provided by the Advisory Committee. Specifically dedicated to this training program, this committee provides oversight of trainee recruitment, appointment, retention, progress evaluation and trainee advocacy.
I hope that you will take the time to explore this site, and discover what the HARRTC has to offer. Please don’t hesitate to contact us – we’d love to hear from you!
